The Pendant :
I am so excited to be introducing this piece, which I have called 'A Star is Born'...Using Artist Kellie Oliphant-Burns drawing, I then created a rough mould, meticulously hand carved and formed the dog tag style pendant from.999 pure silver, after firing, hours of hand sanding, oxidizing to give a vintage, old world feel, buffing and finally polishing shine....I LOVE, LOVE LOVE the way it turned out. The pendant is a dog tag shape and is 3/4" W x 1 3/8"" L
The Chain: An incredibly sturdy, comfortable around the neck, 20" solid sterling 6 mm flat curb chain, that I think has the same chunky but rustic feel as the pendant and the two pair perfectly together.
ABOUT THE PENDANT:
I had asked Artist Kellie Oliphant of www.doodledogspainting.com if she would be interested in coming up with a doodle that depicted a greyhound and incorporated a starfish somewhere in the design.
Kellie outdid herself and came up with 8 gorgeous drawings, I love each and everyone of them so have decided to release one at a time...This pendant of a standing greyhound I have named 'A STAR IS BORN'. I am thrilled to introduce this original artwork keepsake pendant with it's elongated greyhound body and adorable little BOXED starfish placed right under his FEET
WHAT IS THE GREYHOUND STARFISH CONNECTION?
Those familiar with greyhound adoption may also be aware of the starfish poem and how it relates to the mindset of those who adopt these elegant, gorgeous, deserving, hounds.
My inspiration for these jewelry pieces stems from my personal identification with the poem.
The Starfish Poem
As I walked along the seashore
This young boy greeted me.
He was tossing stranded starfish
Back to the deep blue sea.
I said, "Tell me why you bother,
Why you waste your time this way.
There's a million stranded starfish
Does it matter, anyway?"
And he said, "It matters to this one.
It deserves a chance to grow.
It matters to this one.
I can't save them all I know.
But it matters to this one,
I'll return it to the sea.
It matters to this one,
And it matters to me."
